BUENOS AIRES

Buenos Aires, the Queen of the Plata, cradle of tango and gate to Argentina, is the most European city in Latin America. It was founded in 1536 and its identity is closely linked with the contribution made by immigrants by the end of XIX century and beginnings of XX century, mainly coming from Italy and Spain, but also including Arabs, Polish and English people, among other places. They have given the city the cultural and architectural diversity that makes it so remarkable. Its varied architecture mingles monumental modern structures with low buildings in residential areas, bringing together diverse styles, such as art noveau, neoclassicist, baroque and international styles.

Its neighborhoods

Its many different neighborhoods are a clear sample of this diversity. La Recoleta, chic and prominent, displays clear French and English reminiscences. La Boca, traditional and crowded, used to be the settling point chosen by Italian immigrants a century ago. Puerto Madero, the newest and most spectacular district, houses sophisticated restaurants and super night views. Palermo Viejo, bohemian and lively, combines the latest trends in design with the most refined cuisine. San Telmo offers its rich historical past, its antique stores and tango nights. And so many other districts, with their unique personalities and charm.

Its culture

The city is a remarkable cultural center of high intellectual level, a good example of this being its numerous national and private universities, museums, art galleries, libraries, exhibition centers and publishing houses. We should definitely mention the Colon Theatre, the most important temple of classical music of the South hemisphere and the one with the best acoustic in the world, according to a survey carried out among 22 first-class orchestra directors, surpassing even the Milan 's La Scala.

Its musical options encompass every genre, ranging from opera (symphonic and chamber) to folklore and rock and – of course – tango, romantic and sensual, universally acclaimed, which can be enjoyed in luxurious salons and in spontaneous street shows.

Its rhythm

Buenos Aires has been and still is the epicenter of the most crucial historical and political events in Argentina. The city concentrates the biggest commercial and financial activity of the whole country. Its downtown area boasts an intense banking and stock exchange activity, on par with the largest cities in the world. Its shipping activity is intense, characterized by the profusion of dams, warehouses and cranes that operate with cruises and freight ships coming from all over the world

Its sports

Its countless sport events are permanently attended by crowds of fans who worship their all-time idols, such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Guillermo Vilas and Diego Maradona. No matter the sport, every event is crowded with both local and foreign spectators: soccer, tennis, car racing, boxing, basketball, golf, rugby and polo, all of which taking place in internationally famous sport centres.

Its nightlife

The night in Buenos Aires is a legend of its own, filled with lights, magic and mystery, with all kinds of shows and cuisine possibilities, with permanently open coffee shops and bookstores, with as many clubs, cinemas and theatres as you can find in the best capital cities in the world. Just walking along the city is a show in itself, with its streets and shop windows, displaying first-class designs and decorations, with huge neon signs, crowded main avenues – we may say that many of its main streets never sleep. Thus, those who know it well were not surprised to find out that, at the end of the year 2004, Buenos Aires was chosen as one of the five most attractive cities in the world, according to a survey carried out among over 30 thousand readers of Condè Nast Traveller magazine.

Its shopping activity

This is also a superb feminine city, offering women as much as they could ever wish for: sumptuous shopping centers with the latest trends, avant garde designs, excellent quality in leather, silver crafts, all with competitive prices and the chance of recovering taxes in purchases made by foreign tourists.

Its cuisine

As regards cuisine, the choices are virtually endless, satisfying every budget and taste, either in some of the traditional bodegones, informal and economical, or in the most elegant restaurants where sophisticated local and international dishes may be enjoyed. Everywhere, the visitor will be able to enjoy the delicious and internationally famous Argentine meat, together with excellent local wines. Buenos Aires is renowned because of the abundance of its superb cuisine at all levels, from gourmet to simple suburban establishments. Even if eating choices may be found all over the city, there are some fashionable restaurant districts, such as Las Cañitas, Puerto Madero, Recoleta, San Telmo and Palermo Viejo. There is something for everybody: the most elaborate home made pasta, all kinds of lamb, trout and smoked salmon roulade, pork, medieval-style sugar-coated duck, chiripones with mushrooms, stuffed steak with malbec sauce, sweetbread with mustard sauce are just some of the many delicacies cooked by our chefs

Situated in the northeast of Argentina, Puerto Iguazú City is 300 km away from the Capital City of the Province - Posadas City - and is the city that borders on Brazil and Paraguay through the concourse of Paraná and Iguazú Rivers.

Being a tourist place, it provides with the greatest spectacle of water and forest ever existing on Earth - the imposing Iguazú Falls - in guaraní language "Big waters".

Topographically speaking, Puerto Iguazú is located in a plateau with red rocky land due to the melaphyre decomposition rich in iron and having cliffs covered by humus favouring the growth of an exuberant forest.

Among the most chosen activities, the tourist goes on excursions to Iguazú National Park – Natural Heritage to Humanity by UNESCO – visiting 275 waterfalls and getting to know the exotic flora and fauna.

Puerto Iguazú is a place where nature, in its greatest beauty expression, will amaze the tourist for sure.

Iguazu Falls

Iguazú Falls is undoubtedly the most visited place in Misiones and one of the most imposing natural attractions in Argentina, and why not in South America. Together with Nahuel Huapi National Park in Patagonia, it is one of the most frequented tourist sites.
In guaraní language, the term "Iguazú" means "great waters". It was discovered in 1541 by Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and established in 1984 as Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Situated in Iguazú National Park, some 20 km. from Puerto Iguazú in the north of the province, these falls are shared by Brazil and Argentina.

Iguazú river is born in Paraná state in Brazil, and after crossing 1,200 km. on a plateau where it receives several tributaries, it reaches a fault forming a crack in the interleaved layers of sandstone and basalt where the river runs.

This river runs through a smooth geography until it reaches a series of faults, and suddenly an 80 m. canyon in the Devil's Throat where the water produces a thundering sound and then drains into the Paraná river.

A legend says that a big snake called "Boi" lived in the river. To calm its ferocity, aborigines sacrificed a woman every year as an offering. But once a brave guaraní aborigin kidnapped the woman and saved her from the traditional rite escaping through the river. Boi burst in anger, bent its body and split the river forming the cataracts separating the man and the woman.

There are more than 270 falls in an area where cliffs and islets are scattered in a half moon. From the visitors center you can walk around trails or in a picturesque train.
There are two basic circuits: an upper path and a lower path. The lower path leads to the base of the falls, where the spray moistens visitors. It is a unique experience, worth daring the adventure. In this circuit you may also take a boat to Isla San Martín. From the upper path you have panoramic views from the footbridge in an unforgettable experience.

The falls that can be visited are: Salto Floriano, Salto Deodoro, Salto Benjamín Constant, Salto Unión, Salto Escondido, Salto Mitre, Salto Belgrano, Salto Rivadavia, Salto Tres Mosqueteros, Salto Dos Mosqueteros, Salto San Martín, Salto Adán y Eva, Salto Bozzetti, Salto Ramirez, Salto Chico, Salto Dos Hermanos and Salto Alvar Nuñez.

Patagonia is situated in the south of the Colorado River in Argentina, South America. It is a plateau with an area of more than 770,000 sq km, and includes five provinces: Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego.

The name Patagonia comes from the word patagones, coined for the first time in 1520 by the Portuguese sailor Hernando de Magallanes to identify the local natives.

This stunning beautiful extensive region offers a variety of natural unique scenarios: The Cordillera de los Andes large mountainous mass and its immense plateau, covered with the typical steppes vegetation, spotted with lakes, rivers, mountains, local forests and spectacular millenaries glaciers.

The thawing of these giant glaciers formed two large lakes: Lago Argentino and Lago Viedma, which pour their waters onto the Atlantic Ocean, and run along Santa Cruz Province, creating the serpent-like Santa Cruz river.

In the South of Santa Cruz Province, Los Glaciares National Park offers a natural and breathtaking scenario such as the magnetic Mount Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre and the Viedma, Upsala and Perito Moreno Glaciers, among others.

If you visit the southern Patagonia you get a hint of what the Glacial Age was a thousand years ago.
